Industrial ventilators and fans have a wide range of applications in both industrial and commercial sectors. Some of the main applications of fans include:
Providing process air (e.g., combustion air)
The operating range of industrial ventilators spans from simple airflow transfer at atmospheric pressure to generating up to 15 psig of positive pressure. Gas streams with pressures exceeding 15 psig are typically supplied by compressors.
Fas are used to handle gas flow rates ranging from just a few cfm to over 1 million cfm.
The primary purpose of a fan is to move a certain mass of gas or vapor at a desired velocity. To achieve this, a slight increase in air pressure across the rotor or impeller is required, although the main objective is air movement without any significant pressure rise. The total pressure developed by a fan is typically measured in millimeters of water gauge (mm W.G.).
A blower, also referred to as a fan, essentially performs air movement by generating a considerable pressure increase to overcome flow resistance. In some applications, they can raise the pressure up to 1000 mm W.G. or more.
In contrast to fans and blowers, compressors are generally used for high-pressure applications, where the common measure of performance is expressed in terms of pressure ratio.
