Objectives of F300 Parking Smoke Exhaust System Design

According to the BS 7346-7 standard, as one of the primary references for parking ventilation, the F300 parking smoke exhaust system is implemented in a building to achieve three main objectives:

1. To assist firefighters in clearing smoke during and after a fire

By employing proper ventilation during and after a fire, we aim to help firefighters extract smoke more quickly, thereby enabling faster fire suppression. In addition to reducing smoke concentration, adequate ventilation also prevents a sharp rise in temperature within the parking area.

2. To help firefighters reach the fire source by creating a smoke-free path

A well-designed ventilation system can help firefighters access the fire source as quickly and safely as possible. This is achieved by removing smoke, which improves visibility and reduces heat levels in the parking area. Moreover, clearing the smoke creates a smoke-free route for firefighters to move through.

3. To provide a safe escape route for occupants

As mentioned in the second objective, proper ventilation can create a smoke-free path, which not only assists firefighters but also helps occupants escape from hazardous areas.

It is important to note that during the early stages of a fire, the automatic activation of the F300 smoke exhaust system may disturb the smoke layers and potentially hinder occupant evacuation. Therefore, appropriate start-up delays, warning systems, and manual controls for firefighters must be incorporated into the system design.
